With face mask and sanitizers why have our own companies not stepped up to the plate by this time? Originally we heard how some were going to start producing mask and other needed commodities; but have they?
Needs vs wants. It is foolish to rely on other countries to supply materials and goods that we need.
I think it is ok to buy our "wants" from them, however.

The reason we haven't ramped up manufacturing further, is because the government (starting with the "budget process," in the House of Representatives) won't commit to a multi year purchase contract.

With capitalisms, if the need was there; somebody would fill that need. So what changed? The heck with government contracts; why are they not stocking the store shelves? We don't make the raw materials anymore? What has happened to our Country. You look back the the war effort during WWII and think to yourself that we do not stand a chance today. What happened to all the robots that were supposed to steal our jobs; are they on strike?

They are not stocking the store shelves, because the medical services are buying up the entire supply, and they, rightly, have priority, here. Manufactures see this as a temporary surge in demand, so they will not expand production capacity, as that would be a financial nightmare. This goes for both "raw materials" and the finished products.

WW2 was a different situation, and the Government did put in multiyear orders for war machines. In fact, if you look it up, the government was already trying to shut down the war machine manufacturing, in 1944.

Personally, I think the government needs to put in a multi year buy for N95 medical masks, but the Leftists in our government value the crisis more than they value either the answer to that crisis, or their citizens.

I've found a source for Federally certified N95 masks that are made in USA.

Comes in two styles: flat folding mask and a cup shaped mask.

The company's story is in a NY Times article. The Times is a paywall site but some articles are open to the public.

If you have a source for N95 masks that you'd like to tell us about, please add that info to this thread.

Best to all.
