The reason we haven't ramped up manufacturing further, is because the government (starting with the "budget process," in the House of Representatives) won't commit to a multi year purchase contract.

They are not stocking the store shelves, because the medical services are buying up the entire supply, and they, rightly, have priority, here. Manufactures see this as a temporary surge in demand, so they will not expand production capacity, as that would be a financial nightmare. This goes for both "raw materials" and the finished products.
WW2 was a different situation, and the Government did put in multiyear orders for war machines. In fact, if you look it up, the government was already trying to shut down the war machine manufacturing, in 1944.
Personally, I think the government needs to put in a multi year buy for N95 medical masks, but the Leftists in our government value the crisis more than they value either the answer to that crisis, or their citizens.
