So my daughter is looking at a job that will bring her to Shreveport. We've looked at the forums here and read all the warnings... so now, we'd like to hear from some folks who actually LIKE Shreveport and can offer some positive advice. This job is not available anywhere else, so "don't come here" is not helpful! There have to be pleasant, safe, enjoyable neighborhoods there somewhere....

The job would be out of town to the southwest, about 20 to 30 minutes from the south side of the city. Info on this an other sites suggests the areas on either side of Mansfield Rd /Rt. 171 south, just outside the loop may be okay. Thoughts?

Others have mentioned Bossier City, but that's likely too far for a daily drive to work... 45+ minutes.

She's coming from a really nice, downtown area in a walkable neighborhood with restaurants, shops and nightlife.... (and a really high cost of living)... she's also rather fearless and not afraid of this change! The job is pretty much everything. Are any of these neighborhoods 'walkable', or is S'veport more a driving city? Any advice is appreciated! She's looking to rent ... apartment / condo / house... Where should she look.... and avoid?

Thanks!

Shreveport is more of a driving city TBH. There is very little built that would be considered walkable today. I don't really think SW Shreveport would be an ideal place for her as the crime has risen in recent years. Apartments are only good around Clyde Fant Parkway which would be too far to commute.

I would suggest she look around Stonewall, especially the North DeSoto school complex. That area seems nice enough for the area. Also possibly around I-49 and Southern Loop. It does get expensive around that area, but I don't know what your daughter is looking at to pay for rent. Maybe it is not as expensive as where she is currently living.

These are the two main possibilities that I can come up with. Maybe someone else could add to this.

Hd,

You seem to be the ambassador of North Louisiana. I'm a former Baton Rouge resident and big fan of Mandeville Covington. Are there any specific area like this with affluence and low crime in SBC?
