Lets put it this way...I and a few other home owners had to patrol the streets in our area ARMED because there were so many rapes, break ins, thefts, assaults, and so on that never made it in the news.

It used to be a nice safe place to live. We have people moving out of here in mass. The apartment complexes are turning into HUD housing. The property value is droping (I know I tried to sell my house not long ago and can't even get what I paid for it).

The thugs are coming from the area around the old South Park mall and infesting this area. Its not a race thing just a group of people that don't care thing.

I love Shreveport, yet I hate seeing it slowly die. Our wonderful leaders do nothing. They don't care. When we get one that does...the thugs that were voted into office shout him or her down.

Who knows what is going to happen when the river boats pull up anchor (and they will...as soon as Texas gets gambling).

The one thing about shreveport that confounds me is the fact that after the last census we found out that Shreveport is what 81% black (sorry african-american) and yet we are still called the majority? What gives?

But if we can get enough people ....black, white, yellow, brown whatever to come together and tell those in charge that we have had enough....then maybe, just maybe things will change. I know that I keep in touch with my councilman all the time and let him know how atleast I feel about things going on in the Great City of Shreveport.

SOOOOOO TRUE I lived in Town Oaks south (my sister lived there pre katrina and rita storms and she had nooo problems)...I lived there a few months after the storm........While I was there...in less then 3 months there were numerous rapes, car thefts, break ins...we received papers telling us of these new occurrences and all...If you dont know where town oaks south is its the white apartments infront of the university terrace neighborhood...There is a dairy queen on one side a gas station on the other....... It sits on the corner of youree and burt kouns...We thought it was a safe place......We have two kids...The whole place was being rented out by NO and storm people in general .....The front desk told us sooo....Now I have lived in south bossier over 18 years...There is a BIG difference...But even south bossier has its faults...DRUGS thats pretty much it just be careful but drugs are bad over there.........YOU JUST DONT HEAR ABOUT THEM!!!!!

Drugs are a problem everywhere. Even out here in Haughton. I live on a very quiet street with virtually no crime to speak of, lots of good children, etc and we had a woman get arrested on this street recently for child abandonment and drug possession.

Just FYI the New Orleans evacuees issue is a very old story now. Only a handful of them might remain in our area. We can't blame them for our social ills... we have had an extremely high crime rate long before they ever showed up, and police reports prove that our crime rate was barely even affected by New Orleans evacuees.

For crime in southeast Shreveport, blame Cedar Grove, don't blame New Orleans.

TRUE...I agree some parts of Shreveport have always been bad...but Im talking when i moved in to these apartments over 2 years ago...we moved back to bossier....thats what im saying......but there are still some here....almost alot of them work at casinos (not the bad ones) because ive worked at 3 local casinos and alot of these people are from down south...so there are a few that remain...im sure there are still some bad ones here too....Yes i do agree drugs are everywhere and Shreveport well...has always been bad...but the good parts of Shreveport are not good anymore...i feel sorry for the older people who have settled down paid alot of money for there properties and then there neighborhood's are ran sacked by hoodlums....

I hear what you're saying. I'm just glad I didn't end up living in those apartments, because we almost did. We went to SpringLake Point instead. But I'm much happier in Bossier Parish even though I'd rather be in Bossier City.

Shreveport really got bad in the 80s and when the economy went bad, it got worse. Luckily it's leveled off... it hasn't gotten better but it hasn't gotten worse (with a few exceptions.)

I've always been a Bossierite... even growing up in one of Bossier's worst neighborhoods I always felt safer than my friends in places like Cedar Grove and such.

Best of luck to ya, buddy, but remember that the grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side. It will be extremely difficult for you to find a southern city as large as, or larger than Shreveport, with a lower violent crime rate. But if you do find this pot of gold at the end of your rainbow, then by all means go there if it makes you happy.
I think there's a different reason behind Bossier City's much lower crime rate.

OKAY, LET ME CLEAR SOME OF THIS UP. I AM A YOUNG MAN OF 22 WHO HAS BEEN PART OF CRIME AND GREW UP IN CRIME IN MONROE, LOUISIANA ON THE SOUTHSIDE WHICH HAS SO MANY HOUSING PROJECTS(AKA HOODS GHETTO). IIN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO CLEAN UP MY LIFE, I WANTED TO MOVE TO SHREVEPORT, A COMMON MOVE FOR PEOPLE WHO LOVE LOUISIANA AND THIS REGION. NOWWWWW......GROWING UP ALL I KNEW WAS SHREVEPORT HAS A FREE HOSPITAL AND SOME SEXY ASS CASINOES, BUT I HAD NO IDEA SHREVEPORT HAD SO MUCH CRIME. I CAME TO SHREVEPORT WITH NOTHING AND HAD HOPES OF USING MY SKILLS OF HUSTLING TO COME UP, BUT DAM IT WAS SO DIFFICULT WITH A GANGS THERE. THE HUGE CRYPT AND BLOOD GANGS, THE VIOLENCE, THE BAD ATTTITUDES OF THOSE PEOPLE IN CERTAIN AREAS WAS SO ABUNDANT. i THOUGHT MONROE'S SOUTH SIDE WAS BAD, BUT SHREVEPORT GOT COMMUNITYS COMPARED TO COMPTON AND SOUTH CENTRAL IN CALIFORNIA!!! IN THE EARLY 90'S SHREVEPORT DAM NEAR HIT THE MURDER CAPITAL, LAST YEAR IN THE MOST DANGEROUS CITY'S RANKS, SHREVEPORT WAS IN THE TOP 30!!! I WILL NOT GO INTO DETAILS BUT, I SAW SOME CRAZY ASS **** WHEN I LIVED IN CEDAR GROVE & HUNG AROUND COOPER ROAD. 2 THINGS I SAW QUITE INTERESTING, I SAW VERY FEW POLICE IN SHREVEPORT AND THE WELL OF PEOPLE THER ADJUST TO CRIME(I SAW A MEXICAN TRYING TO ROB A MAN AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WHO SEEM SUCESSFUL. THAT MAN ACTUALLY PULL OUT AK 47 AND SCARED THE ROBBER OFF, THAT FREAKED ME OUT!!!) THE BOSSIER CITY IS THE OPPOSITE, POLICE IS VERY ACTIVE, VERY VERY ACTIVE(I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE) AND THE PEOPLE THERE LIVE AS THOUGH THEY ARE SOMEWHAT AT EASE. ALL I KNOW WHEN I TOOK BUS BACK TO MONROE, I FELT LIKE I WAS IN PARADISE, SO MUCH CLEANER, SO LESS CRIME, I THOUGHT TO MYSELF DAM SHREVEPORT U ARE SO LOOSE. BUT ON A LIGHTER NOTE, SHREVEPORT IS PROGRESSING SO FAST, DOWNTOWN WONT STOP GROWING. I JUST THINK THEY NEED TO CONTROLL THE CRIME BECAUSE THAT **** IS RIDICULOUS EVEN FOR A PERSON LIKE ME WHO IS USE TO THAT LIFESTYLE. IM TRYING TO CHANGE, BUT NO WAY I COULD IN SHREVEPORT, I'LL HAVE TO COME BACK CHANGED TO LIVE THERE. BUT I LOVE SHREVEPORT, AND I PLAN ON CONTRIBUTING TO THE AREA ONE DAY AND PRAY THAT IT IMPROVES!!!! MODERATOR: Please do not use all caps with your messages - it makes them hard to read...

In a nutshell, Shreveport politicians seem to be a reflection of the city itself. When the citizens start calling these pols to task be they city, county (parish), state or federal we will see more results. Getting results start with you and me regardless of what race religion or sexual preference we happen to be. But first this has to be done. We are a lazy lot. Unfortunately I include myself for being to busy to care, but me and you can correct this.

Politicians and preachers... two groups I don't trust any more than I trust the thugs on the streets.

The population in general is wealthier than that of neighboring Shreveport, and statistically there is less crime in wealthier areas.
