Alcohol Laws in Shreveport/Bossier Area (Bossier City, Monroe: sales, how much, to buy)

I was just wondering about the alcohol laws around Shreveport/Bossier. What are the selling hours? Are there any "dry" counties close by? Do they sell beer & hard liquor on Sundays? We're thinking of relocating to the area, and we have our priorities!! haha

No alcohol sales on Sundays? Never heard of that. What about the football fans?

I know right!!! I currently live in a dry county. And the next county over, only sells beer on Sundays. So when we relocate, I don't want to make the same mistake.

Shreveport and Bossier merchants sell beer and wine on sunday. No hard liquor. However various restaurants and grills will sell any drink with food. Monroe 95 miles to the east sells hard liquor on sunday as well. Btw, many places in the US don't have sunday alcohol sales. I believe Minden 30 miles east is dry and some other small towns are as well. Most of the time just outside of the "dry limits" there is a liquor store or convenience store which sells beer. So you are never far away from anything really.

I didn't know that Monroe sells hard liqour on Sundays! Now I know where I need to go on Sundays!

Yep Minden is dry. You can't even buy beer at the Wal-Mart there. Bummer.

Yeah they just voted on that a while back; in the last year or so. Desparate for tax revenue, I guess they just swallowed their religious beliefs.

I don't know about north Louisiana but I can tell you that south Louisiana has about the most liberal liquor laws in the nation. I was fishing at Grand Isle once and went to a bait shop to buy tackle and frozen shrimp. There happened to be a bar in the bait shop. I sat there and drank about 3 beers before going fishing.

Wal-mart now claims that it cannot sell wine over 6% alcohol content on Sundays in Shreveport anymore. When asked why, they first say it is the law, but employees in the store and managers don't know what law. No signs are posted so it is infuriating when you get to the checkout counter. Does anyone know where Wal-mart is getting this. I went immediately to a grocery store (market) down the way and bought wine within a few minutes.

I didn't even realize that Louisiana had alcohol restrictions outside of Pineville.

I guess the North is different after all (joking).

Actually years ago, when I was a Shreveporter, Sunday alcohol sales were banned altogether. Progressive Bossier City started Sunday beer and wine sales and so it was the custom to drive over the S'port-Barksdale bridge to that gas station in front of the base after you had consumed what was left from the case you didn't polish off on the previous Saturday night.

Then the City of Shreveport saw how much tax revenue it was missing-out on and allowed Sunday beer and alcohol sales starting in 1994 or 1995. That was great because Thrifty Liquor was just around the corner on Youree drive from my house.

One thing I noticed is that grocery stores in BC stocked hard liquor right there on a shelf in the store. In Shreveport the stores had a separate walled-off section for liquor and beer if it indeed sold hard alcohol.

Finally, I miss the good-old days when you could drink it up at Fud's or Cowboy's or some of the bars near Centenary and then get something good at Murrell's or Joe's to soak up the booze! I also miss the friendly folks of the ArkLaTex but I don't miss the city so much.
