Even being an old guy, I had not heard of these until a few years back when I read the journals of Lewis and Clark. Since then I've read about them online and seen some of the Youtube stuff, which may or may not be real. Just wondering if any of you in SD have experienced these there.
Funny you mention this. We're here in Louisiana but the title caught my eye.
Just yesterday, wife and I were in the kitchen drinking coffee. We were watching our old lady Missy, Chihuahua, on the floor. She lays on the floor in the sunspots to warm up. All of a sudden, the daylight kinda flickered, it's as if the window panes moved, a shimmer effect. Wife was like, I know you've seen that, what just happened? I don't know, my reply. But it could have been a flock of birds that flew overhead.
I also told her that Betelgeuse May be on the brink of a supernova, and maybe it happened. But that was proven wrong because we seen the star last night. I had to point it out to her. And by golly, it really is dim. Dimmer than what I remember it has been. I'm an avid star gazer. Even showed her the light band of the Milky Way. Very faint in my neck of the woods, looks like a cloud.
I understand these happen a in various parts, most commonly in the Finger Lakes area of NY, but the reports from Lewis and Clark when they were in the area of S.D. is what made me first interested. I have watched a number of Youtube videos, Some of these were shown to be faked, but there are a couple that are believed to be the real thing. Though the rare occurrence of these is not disputed, there are many theories about the cause of them.
Keep in touch. It sounds like an interesting topic.
