Native Americans do not point with their index finger. It is considered rude. Yet for decades the model statue for Crazy Horse has him pointing a finger. And that is how they still plan to finish the memorial. Do they not understand the culture or do they not care? They need to fix this ASAP.

Here's an interesting article discussing this fact: https://www.manataka.org/page1425.html

To be fair the man who had the inspiration and began the work of the statue was named Korczazk Ziolkowski so I'm guessing he didn't grow up with Dakota (Oglala Sioux) values.

The article mentions that pointing is particularly offensive to the older members of the tribe so I suppose like all of us as we watch our values being attacked or changed by newer or different cultures they will die and the culture will change until no one knows it was once considered rude.

I understand the culture b/c I'm one of them. We call ourselves American Indians.
And, anyone born in America IS a native American!

He was pointing at the declining bison herds and the coming of the hordes of Wasichu
