This weekend I'm riding in the MS150 bike ride at Mount Rushmore and I have a couple of questions. I live in Texas.

1) How is the drive from Denver to Mount Rushmore? How long does it take?
2) What is the weather like now? We haven't seen the thermometer drop below 75 in a long time our day time highs are still in the mid to upper 90's and low in the high 70's.

The drive from Denver to Rushmore is very boring... just open country - not much to look at, but the roads are in good condition or many towns along the way - takes a little over five hours or so - 6 or longer if you make gas / bathroom stops of course (I can thank the kids for that).

Today weather is nice and cool - feeling more like fall - currently we are in the upper 50's this am - should warm to upper 60's today.

It looks like you'd better bring a jacket. The nights generally cool down in the Hills and keep in mind that the climate is semi-arid so the dewpoint and humidity will be quite low.

Have a fun weekend.

LOL! You shouldn't experience snow this weekend (that's not to say it hasn't snowed in the Hills in September before), but you probably will at least want a heavy sweatshirt or light jacket, depending on how you tolerate chilly temps. We are getting down into the 40's at night now. My dad is living in TX, and when he was up here this summer, he was loving the lack of humidity! During the day time, we are still getting up to the 70's and 80's, but it will feel pretty different than you are used to without the mugginess!

The drive isn't that long really, just BORING!!! I like making it at night but Wyoming has a lot of deer so I get worried about that sometimes. The Black Hills stay warm and dry during the day but that dry air gets really cold at night. My mom just flew back to Rapid City from Minneapolis last night and she said it was really really cold when she got home at 11 o'clock pm.

I did the drive and it was boring but it worked out.

I wanted to say how beautiful the black hills were and the locals all seemed very nice. I think I picked the worst weekend weather wise for the bicycle ride but it was fun going up iron mountain and needles hwy anyway.

Thanks for the hospitality!

You're right - it was pretty nasty this weekend! Glad you enjoyed yourself despite the unfriendly weather!
