Hi,
My husband and I are considering to retire in St. George Utah and I enjoy road cycling however, I have not found any cycling groups or people to ride with. I am a casual rider. Are the roads nice? Is St. George road bike friendly?
Thanks

I wonder just a tad about your question.

Road biking as in biking on the road, in contrast with biking on dirt ?
Biking on foot powered Bicycle or Motor powered Two/Three wheel vehicle ?

We have a lot of Bicycle groups in most *big Cities* in Utah, so I think you will find plenty of *compadres* to bicycle with.
The same with Motor cycles.

Just get here, visit a bicycle shop or motorcycle shop and enjoy !!

I'm a mountain biker, so I have no actual expertise on all things "road". However, I see tons of road cyclists throughout the area. So know it's hugely popular. Many folks train year round for the big triathalon. You may want to give High Knees Cycling a call. They are more of a tri shop, but do group rides and could probably get you hooked up with an appropriate group should you choose to visit or live here. I've never been to their shop, but drive by it a lot. High Knees Cycling - A Southern Utah Cycling and Triathlon Shop

From what I can see, the town is pretty bike friendly. Most of our roads are newer from the big growth boom over the past 20 years and they are well maintained. Most roads are fairly wide and some have bike lanes. The bigger issue is that the people of St. George are not the best drivers in the world. Not horrible, but I've experienced much better. With a pretty good sized retired population and the younger crowd always on their phones, it sometimes doesn't mix well. So, just be aware when riding (that's why I only mountain bike...for the safety factor - but I'm a chicken).

A popular area seems to be the Ivins/Snow Canyon area...very beautiful and less traffic.

Good luck with your journey!

Don't blame St George drivers for not being as good as you seem to have seen other places. Remember most of the St George Drivers moved here from somewhere else, and brought their driving habit's from other parts of the nation especially California for the retired drivers.

Tell that to the poor cyclist who was killed Tuesday.

@irman, I was referring to pedal power as in bicycling (cycling), yes I own a motorcycle but have already found group to ride with.

Thanks to everyone that has replied, we decided not to move to St. George.
