Currently we're doing research on potential retirement locations, and the Greater St. George area is on our shortlist. I've come across several postings on multiple sites that reference a beltline hwy that would hopefully take the traffic load off the surface streets in downtown St. George (mainly for those people north of SG heading to I-15).

What I can't determine, even from the state and local sites, is if this is a done deal, or just wishful thinking. I certainly can see the benefits, but find it hard to believe that the powers that be would run a highway thru established subdivisions, such as Sunriver. I'm guessing that the overall value of homes in that area would drop if the beltline split their community just to get to a specific exchange on I-15. There must be concerns on the east side of I-15 as the beltline runs out by the proposed airport, and then runs north into established areas in order to join the Washington/Hurricane area into the beltline.

So, does anyone know if this is going to happen? Are there any definitive maps out there, so I can make sure I don't purchase a home that ends up with a stunning view of an onramp sometime in the future?

We'll be in SG in mid April checking out the community, so we plan on stopping at City Hall to get an offiicial response.

Thanks in advance.

Retirementbound,

I doubt that the city hall will be able to give you a definitive answer. As I understand, the state is waiting for an answer on the environmental impact statement. If the EIS is approved, then the state goes to the next step which I believe is to figure out how to fund it. If they can fund building the road, then they can advertise for bids. The process to build any highway in the U.S. has become so front loaded with process that to go from the idea of building a highway to completion seems to take 6-10 years without considering time added due to law suits. The best I can recommend would be to snoop around the udot website. They have information on what they hope to accomplish through 2030. Don't have the link. Just type "udot" in your search engine. Hope that helps.
