What about the walkability and public transportation access of these areas? If the building is nice, but there isn't anything else around, that might not appeal to many people. That is regardless of what one thinks about the building.

So, what does this thread have to do with the area, if this is just a listing of apartment buildings in other cities? The title says something different from what the content illustrates and seems more in line with a thread of for the Urban Planning forum.

In case anyone in the Syracuse area in leadership positions ever comes across this thread it gives people ideas that are so much better than most of trash designs they were approving for the past 20 years.

So these are just examples of more attractive designs for new apartments, so local leadership can try to always push to get the best possible designs from developers.

It it also helps fill my consciousness with beauty rather then think about the ugly buildings built in Syracuse recently . Think that we missed a chance to build 14 beautiful apartments is so depressing to think about. It is helping me recover from the shock of such ugliness that slightly truamized me. Thinking about how developers just built the cheapest possible junk apartments just because the leadership in Syracuse didn't have any standards is depressing to think about.

Leadership doesn't design the buildings though. If the thread is really about city design(your title), where do the aspects of walkability, public transportation, building set up, bike options, location and character come into play?

I'll ask this, where do you think any of these examples should go? I ask this given that many of the examples either aren't much different than many of the newer apartments in the area, don't really fit the character of much of the city and are in many cases very similar in terms of look.

A good example of a source that touches on a variety of aspect in terms of city design is this Rochester based blog, where the writer has come to various cities, including Syracuse: https://theurbanphoenix.com/

I believe when people states city design, it touches on the aspects that the blog mentions.

My point is Syracuse leadership should stop the Ugly character of the city designs now. Who cares what designs fit into the character of the city if the past city designs were ugly.

The Everson Museum is ugly.

The Golisano Childens Hospital is ugly.

The Center of Excellence is ugly.

The Harrison House former Apartments is ugly.

The NYS Office Building next to City Hall is ugly.

Why not use the character of the attractive Armory Square buildings or the Clinton Square historic buildings as the character of the city, not some ugly junk from the past 70 years.

The Everson is about 55 years old.

Golisano Children’s Hospital doesn’t look anything close to brutalist and doesn’t look much different from the buildings you like.

As explained before, the COE’s design has an environmental purpose behind it.

With the last two, you are really digging in terms of old examples.

Building architecture varies within the city and if you can’t see that, then I’m wondering if you go into the city or live in the area.

Look, I get that you have your favorite types of buildings, but they honestly aren’t anything different from some of the newer buildings here, just don’t fit in anywhere unless it is a new neighborhood(think of the potential of the Inner Harbor) or are suburban style apartments. If city design is going to be discussed, there needs to be a comprehensive discussion about how said buildings fit, as well as how other aspects of design come into play.

Again, I literally did this with another thread and made to where it was in relation to the city itself(the gentrification/revitalization thread). Perhaps being away from the forum a long time, gave an impression that all of these topics you’ve started haven’t been discussed or brought up, but have been over the years.
