Merry Christmas Sunnydee and congrats on your purchase! I will say, I'll back Peregrine up on the refurb iPads. I bought one for my wife a few months ago, and it works perfectly, no issues at all. I saved a good deal of money, even though it wasn't under $200 (I think it was around $350 or something like that for a 32GB.) She bought me a brand new iPad 3 for Christmas, and I'm enjoying it so far!
But, as for Dave is saying, I understand his point as well. If it's someone who just wants one to mess around with - something that isn't going to be a main computer but just a "play toy" to learn on, then some of the cheaper tablets is OK, but the Nexus 7 is probably a great choice no matter what.
The nexus7 is fantastic. It does everything I need it to, while the laptop collects dust.
I love apple products, and in an Mac vs. PC world, the premium for Apple made sense because Windows was just that bad. With Android in the mix, Apple looks a bit overpriced, unfortunately. Otherwise, I'd be typing this on an iPad instead of a nexus.
Hello. I am a complete non-techie, so I am looking for advice. My friend has an Ipad and suggested I get a tablet to use for emailing, looking at YouTube videos, perusing the web, and playing music. I can't afford an Ipad, but is there a tablet under $200.00 that can do these things? I don't even know where to begin looking.
Thanks.
Depending on how much e-mailing and web browsing (and more specifically, typing) you do, I'd recommend buying a chromebook. Acer has a $200 version and Samsung has a (IMO, superior) $250 version.
EDIT: Oops, I didn't see the OP already made his purchase. I'd still recommend a chromebook though.
I got a Nexus 7, so now I'll have to learn how to use it. Thanks everyone for all of your help and Merry Christmas!
I just read this thread and I am wondering at this point, Sunnydee, if you are happy with your Nexus 7? I have played with one at BB to get the feel of all available at my price point and I DID like the Nexus very much.
Sure hope you are having fun learning all about the "smart world"!
Hyundai? The car manufacturer?
Call me skeptical, but I'd stick with one of the major players before I'd drop money on that product.
Then how is it that so many no name manufacturers can make tablets? And Apple's tablets are made in China anyway. Google's tablets are made by Asus and Samsung. I think as a company Hyundai is bigger than Asus and Hyundai's manufacturing experience has to be bigger than Google's.
I would avoid a no name tablet because they might go out of business. Hyundai is just the biggest name with a microSD slot. Apple and Google tablets do not have slots. Google's 7 inch tablets do not have rear cameras. Whatever you get will be a compromise.
But these are nothing but names anyway. Lets face it, all of these devices are standard technology now. It is almost just a matter of quality and care of construction. But for the user it is a matter of what to do with them. A kid can waste time playing games or he can learn electronics.

Not sure what you mean by this. Google gives Android away for free so anyone is able to make tabs for them.

I didn't say I had a problem with it being made in China.

That and they made crap products. A 10 inch tablet for $100 is crap. Period.
That and what is Hyundai's record for pushing updates to tablets? Oh, we don't know. Asus FREQUENTLY Updates theirs and in fact the TF300T got the Jelly Bean update before ANY other tablet on the market except for the Nexus line.

Asus makes their own tablets. They make far and away the best ones, too. Not the Nexus line that is branded as a "Google Device" but the Transformer Line that has the optional Keyboard dock. Not one but two SD CARD Slots. Acer also makes Tablets with slots.
Asus also has a reputation for updating their gear. Does Hyundai? Does Coby?

No compromise on the AS TF300 of TF700.

I don't agree with this. You spend $450 on a TF700 from Asus and you are getting a top quality screen covered in the very strong Gorilla Glass from Corning. Your $250 Hyundai tablet is going to have a screen with poor viewing angles, and certainly NOT Gorilla Glass.
When it comes to tablets I am a big believer in: You get what you pay for. I've seen too many people burned on Coby and Polaroid tablets. Yea Polaroid is a decent company but not in the Tablet business.
You are talking about devices over $300 and $400 and weigh more than 1 pound.
The Hyundai is under $200. The specs are comparable to the Google Nexus 7 and has a microSD slot with rear camera. A little more power but somewhat shorter battery life.
I admit to having no data on reliability but that applies to lots of tablets. And I can find complaints about the iPad. I am not talking about anything other than 7 inch devices. If it won't fit in a pocket I am not interested.
