I have a disabled relative who loves watching DVDs all day but he's too rough with the flimsy portable DVD players which run about $70. I was thinking I could get him a Kindle fire with a big microSD card and rip a bunch of his DVD movies onto the microSD storage. Compressed, these movies wouldn't take more than about 1gb, so I could get 60+ on a 64gb SD card.
Do you think that would work well for him in terms of getting to the movies? Maybe there's a video playing app on it that might be friendlier?
My concern is all the pre-existing shovelware will distract him.
VLC has an Android version, and plays pretty much everything.
Does he have a PC available? If so you could do the same and run a Plex server so that the same content is available on multiple devices, or even use a Roku or similar streaming stick to stream from the Plex Server, or even something like Hulu or Netflix.
ES File explorer and your favorite video player for Android should do the trick. Ripping 60 movies will take a while. There is another recent thread on this here https://www.city-data.com/forum/consu...vd-ripper.html
I've used MX Player, VLC, BSPlayer, Daroon and Kodi. Kodi would eliminate the need for the ES File Explorer since you can setup a "library" and point it to the external SD card. It would bring in all the titles, artwork and other movie information along with it.
