Negative. To get the 3G service (which is through AT&T), you either pay $14.99 for limited data or $29.99 for unlimited data each month. There is no contract required, though. That extra $130 is just the price premium for the 3G-equipped models.
I stand corrected.
Apple - iPad - Price starting at $499 (http://www.apple.com/ipad/pricing/ - broken link)
Ugghh this video made me want it more than I already did.
I'm just trying to find out if its dependent on a computer (like iPhones & iPods) because I'd choose this for a computer for school. I'd like to be able to sync my iPod touch with it.
its a big iTouch.. no camera.. no flash (whats up with Apple and Adobe)?.. no multi-tasking..
ugh..
maybe v2 will be better.
LOL, can you imagine using that thing as a camera? *holds up textbook to eye to demonstrate*. no thanks. web cam would have been cool though
honestly, I saw a slide show of this and got wicked excited. than that excitement died when I saw this: AT&T. WTF Apple, didn't you learn anything from the current IPhone issues!? didn't I just read that the AT&T network couldn't handle the data hog that is the iPhone? how are they now going to handle the iPad on top of all that? why couldn't they have made it available across multiple providers? I read there won't be a contract, but I've read to much about AT&T's network issues to bother w/ it. plus, I HATE AT&T customer service.
hope that thing comes w/ some sort of protective screen cover.
ETA: I think the pricing is AWESOME! why bother buying a Kindle now when, for a bit more, you can something like this? not sure how it compares to the Kindle in terms of viewing, but Amazon should be shaking in their knees right now

It's a big ipod touch. You would have to sync it with a computer to get music or video on or off. You could use some productivity software, but you're completely in the closed universe of Apple. Forget about ever having more than one document open at a time, or doing research on the web while having a document open. No usb ports or SD card slots. No ability to print from the device. This is an ereader replacement with some extra functions. You'd be better off using a netbook for school than the iPad.
And I do have (and love) an iPhone, but this just doesn't do it for me.

There are two things that will keep me from buying the iPad, and honestly I'm surprised Apple hasn't listened to feedback from previous stuff to have not be able to "get it" when they developed this device.
1st as you metioned - lack of a web cam. This thing is supposed to be a hybrid between a super cool netbook, e-reader, and more. Skype even has an app on the Apple store. Yet, they leave off a web cam which at last report costs netbook makers less than $20 to install on their devices. How convenient would it have been for people to sit on their sofa and be able to video chat with relatives and friends? Very. Yet, they left off a web cam. That to me, is a huge nono on such a device. I wonder how much funny punch they were drinking during the development stage where someone there went, "Nahhhhhhh.... we don't need that on there, but hey, if I call it "magical" with my cool British accent, people will buy it anyway!?
2nd is the lack of a memory card reader. If there is no camera/camcorder on the back of the device you can't take photos. If there is no memory card reader, you can't easily import your pics from a camera into it. So, you're left either downloading from a storage service online, or having to hook the thing up via USB to transfer from computer to iPad. Inconvenient.
If this were a $249 device I would say the lack of these two things would almost be forgivable since there is the "cool factor" of what it is, the nice screen, etc. But with prices starting at $500 for the most basic model, to have no web cam or card reader? I won't be in line for it. My Acer netbook doesn't have touch capability or a tablet body, but it does have a web cam and card reader... at half the price. Guess I'll be sticking with that.
