Not sure I understand your post, but I will just say that I grew up in West Tampa (north of Columbus Drive) and while the area where we lived wasn't too bad, there were many hold-ups with guns. And robberies in broad daylight. I would say FOR ME, I just would not live in the majority of inner city neighborhoods in Tampa lol. That includes Hyde Park, which was once known at the most dangerous area of Tampa (back in the 70s, before gentrification) I think the only two areas I would consider would be Palma Ceia ( and some other areas of south Tampa) or the Carrollwood area (if I had to live in Tampa)

Coincidentally, did you all see the Tampa Heights YMCA redevelopment plan?

It’s pretty good. Not to the scale of Water Street or Gas Worx, but it will alter the landscape there considerably.

Armature Works is clearly the “in” place to be and be seen. The clientele is clearly younger, more affluent people who are attempting to show off, so to speak. Or so it would seem.

Tampa can be spotty when it comes to “safe” areas, and this is a good example. A little over a decade ago, I worked in Town and ”Compton”, which I was always of the impression was a crime-ridden, run-down area with rampant crime. Some parts, maybe, but the area where I worked was neat, clean, well-kept and safe.

“Bubba” is a reference to the son of the owner of Tampa Armature Works, the company who owned the old streetcar garage for many decades. I’m not sure if Bubba was involved in the sale of the property, as he’s at the point where he may have retired, but I’m sure he probably had some say in the sale.

Bubba never wanted to run the family business, he wanted to move to Georgia and be a peanut farmer. Whatever.

TNC was bad in the 60's. I was born in Danashores in 1963 and anything north of the Rocky point golf curse as i call it was rough and rundown. Just turned into little cuba as the years went by, Really got bad in the early 90's. Homes in 12 oaks looked good when they first built them in the later 70's but by 2001 they were dumps as well.

I worked at a school in Town and Country, and I was surprised when I saw a number of teachers on the faculty who walked to/from school daily. When I left work that day I drove down the street where they had gone and was surprised at what I saw - very well-kept, neat and clean 50s-60s vintage homes and yards.

I thought that was great! I hope they're able to keep things that way, maybe even "gentrify" outward?

Can you afford it? Its no where cheap. New homes are going near the 1 million mark and townhomes around 800K.
