Sit her down and ask her what she wants to do when she grows up. Ask her if she wants to attend the elite school. How does she see herself when she is 21.
Then help her understand that math mastery is necessary for meeting these goals.
If she sees herself being a fashion model, or hair stylist, and has no further ambition, then I think the tutoring is a lost cause.
I hated all math when I was her age, and resisted learning anything requiring mastery. I was a lazy student. I wish now that I had not closed so many doors so early. You can try to help her see how mastery of hard subjects will lead to a better life, but you have to accept that you might not get through to her.
If that is the case, I think it best for you to tell her mom that you can’t motivate her, and she is wasting money paying for tutoring.
Take away her cell phone and return it after studying occurs.
