i've recently started working as a tutor . Since schools are closed down, i will have to do each lesson via zoom. Given that i have been 'teaching' for quite a while now, but never actually used zoom, i was wondering if i could get some advice from people with more experience than me.
whats especially hard for me to decide on right now is the way i should approach these sessions. I usually prefer a more open style of doing stuff, where the kids get to explore, work and try stuff. But im concerned thats not going to work during a live session (given that im not actually physically present in the room to keep everyone working).
As a substitution, i was planning to use a more lecture like approach, where i spend some time explaining a topic and then have the students work on some practice problems.
Any advice / experience with the situation is highly appreciated. Anyone, who has taught on zoom before - what has worked for you (and why?). Anyone who has been taught on zoom (or something similar) before - what worked better for you? and why?
im guessing those videos should focus on short instructions?
That would be easiest, but it depends on the student and content matter.
Also, the student can watch the video at his/her own pace and repeat as necessary.
In my experience, elementary kids have a VERY hard time paying attention when on Zoom. Make the sessions 15 minutes or less.
