So there is more information coming out about last Friday's tornado outbreak in my area.

They are now saying there were six tornadoes observed in the late afternoon of Sept. 21 in the wider Ottawa-Gatineau area.

The biggie was an F3 tornado with winds at 265 kmh or about 170 mph. This tornado travelled about 15 km or roughly 25 miles from the western exurbs of Ottawa (Dunrobin was hit very hard) across the Ottawa River into Quebec, and wreaked destruction in the neighbourhood of Mont-Bleu in Gatineau.

There was another one (F2) in the southwestern Ottawa suburb of Nepean. This one made a direct hit on a local power station which led to a major outage over several days affecting a large portion of Ottawa.

There was another F1 in Ontario just west of Ottawa (White Lake-Calabogie) and three more F1s in western Quebec around Gatineau (Otter Lake, Réservoir Baskatong and Val-des-Bois).

That officially qualifies as a tornado outbreak.

Insane storms the other day. 10 confirmed tornados in Pennsylvania, with many investigations on going. Already the 5th most active tornado day in recorded history in Pennsylvania. Problem being, many of the tornados that might have occurred are in very remote areas in Northern PA

Whoa, good point. Whats funny is a Tornado around here isn't like a distinct funnel coming from the sky. It's more like a giant swirl of wind. Impossible to see with all the trees and hills around but most of the time it's just a strong sucking swirl with high winds.

But 100mph? I drove by the area (literally minutes away) and there wasn't widespread damage. At 100mph you would expect to see much more damage. Some trees here and there and with 15 inches of rain the ground is so saturated it doesn't take much to up root a tree. No idea what made them say 100mph.

And as soon as there is a report from that remote area, NWS looks into it and labels it a Tornado. Less population, less Tornadoes.

Pretty amazing when we're having record low Tornado year.

Been wondering when we'll see a security camera footage of inside a Tornado. We have cameras everywhere nowadays.

Check it out!
