Little Sioux, IA - An unconfirmed tornado has hit a Boy Scout Camp in Southern Monona County. A Boy Scout official tells Action 3 News there were about 100 Boy Scouts in the camp for leadership training. He says they are 13 to 18 years old - and some of the area's best scouts.
They took cover when the severe weather started to come through. But almost all of the buildings in camp were destroyed. More than 40 people are reported hurt in the camp. Emergency workers tell Action 3 News at least four people have died in the storm.
Scout leaders and emergency units from all over the community are going to the area to lend a hand.
Hundreds of people are arriving to the area, trying to help. Emergency officials are setting up a staging area at the city park in Little Sioux.
Isn't that awful? It's close enough that it was on my local news~Keloland. It looks like Iowa has flooding problems in so many areas, too. That's not isolated since several states are having that problem. The families and friends who lost those boys have my sympathies.
I'm watching Fox News as they are streaming off one of the Cedar Rapids TV stations. Lets send lots of prayers to Iowa in general as most of this state is getting pummeled by bad weather. It looks real bad in Cedar City right now, with a good part of the area under siege by high water. My thoughts and prayers go to all involved.
It was bad... I watched a few accounts of the action by the boy scouts on the news. It hit close to home... And by the way they described it, they deserve recognition.
