Hello all,
I'm looking for a beach destination with beautiful water, off the beaten path, walkable to shopping and restaurants, safe and relatively close to an airport. More recently I've been to Tulum, Punta Cana, Islamorada, Fla. I had Cabo on my bucket list but have heard not so great things lately about the beaches. I also thought of Belize and other destinations in Mexico besides Tulum. I've been to Cozumel and Cancun, but it's been a while. I am looking at keeping it around $3500 and under for 5-7 days. I could travel from New Orleans or Houston and am looking to travel in May next year. Thanks for any guidance you can provide. We are a married couple, mid 50's.
Puerto Vallarta Mexico checks a lot of those boxes, except maybe for the beautiful water. Tons to do, super walkable, great resorts, but you can also go off resort and have a great time. We are actually renting a condo there in September, will be our 5th time going I believe.
Yes, I think Puerto Vallarta is a good choice (before I saw the upthread post). We were there two years ago, stayed in the resort the southest of the main beach. Not fancy, good price, on the beach, etc.
Though Hawaii and Alaska beaches still on average are cleaner than the US continental 24% vs 55% - the sand itself could be 100 times dirtier with fecal matter than water…
Its definitely not the crystal blue of the Caribbean or Cancun.. I think its lovely though.
Puerto Vallarta is also a major cruise destination, and those are places we try to avoid, so the places we want to go aren't overrun by passengers.
