I've grown a bit negative on the overall climate with pretty cold winters, windy spring and part of the summer very hot and we can have smoke in the summer although this year hasn't been bad so far.

We are considering to move to northern Idaho after retiring in the Tri a few years ago due to the panhandle being much prettier, less wind, more rain (so much less dust), and our concern about the direction of Washington state from seeing what is happening in Seattle.
You bring up some fair points Tall. That is why I described the arts community kind of hard to find. But it exists.

As for weather, yeah it is windy in the spring and hot in the summer but all this is well known. I will repeat if you like sunshine it offers the most in the PNW.

I don’t think Seattle’s issues have much effect on Tri Cities. If anything it is perhaps attracting more westsiders over here, increasing our housing values.

I would comment in return, this is not the Tri-Cities I know. Again, I am not denying you experienced this.

Before I comment further, can I ask what year(s) did this occur?

I have been off CD for a few years. To answer your question, I lived in the Tri-Cities from 2001 to 2006. We lived on South Dennis Street in Kennewick. There were folks there that were openly hostile to non-whites.

Tons of sun ... in the summer. Gloomy as hell in the winter. Typical PNW cloud cover.

Checking comments concerning other locations secondary to buying, economic shock as housing prices are up considerably in Tri-Cities area. I still possess strong desire to relocate to Washington dtate area, why? Because you all sound so wonderful and would make great neigbors. I am going to adjust my budget a lot to find housing. Renting is not an option as those prices continue to climb with little allowances for "homelike" environments. What do you think of MosesLake area, or other lesser known but communities in close proximity to the Tri-City area? I am ready to enjoy all this area offers.

Moses Lake is tiny compared to Tri Cities. Less than 30k in town, 90k in county, compared to 305k in Tri Cities. Probably somewhat less expensive, but also less restaurants and shopping. Colder in the winter.

We are looking at retirement in TriCities also. Currently 10 miles north of Abq and cant wait to get out of here. COL is about the lowest anywhere in the west, so we know a move will be more expensive, but the crime here and isolation from other large cities has finally done us in. (7 hours to Phx or Denver with literally nothing in between). Have been wondering just how red TriCities area is?

Tri Cities can best be described as moderately conservative and more likely to vote for the candidate than along strict party lines.

I should add that Tri cities has a very moderate political feel. It definitely is not a red rock area. While the area leans conservative it doesn’t match some ultra conservative areas in the South and lower Midwest.

Most of Cascadia in my experience is a sort of "Libertarian-Conservative" political climate. This is nothing like Texas and the Bible-Belt brand of Conservatism.

I wil say it again. TriCities is conservative, but not conservative like you will strike you as your satndard, us vs. them mentality. Intsead you will ths a somewhat intelligent coversativsn, with little hype, and more crititical thinking.
