I have followed this case for about 20 years--I think I saw a show about it and it piqued my interest. It has certainly had a lot of crazy twists and turns. I cannot believe Skakel got a new trial. His story that he just happened to be in a tree masturbating right near the spot where her body was found has to be the most bizarre story a murder suspect has ever made up.
Going back to some of the earlier posts that suggested the Kennedys have 'bad genes', remember that Skakel is not biologically a Kennedy. His paternal aunt married into the family. Sadly, I suspect most large wealthy and privileged families have these kind of scandals but most are not so much in the public eye.

No genetic influence there; it's all learned behavior, largely driven by the fact that many of those kids never had any consequences for their actions while growing up.

And they had no parenting of any sort after their mom died, on top of being rich and overprivileged even when she was alive.

Yes it is difficult to get Kennedy "bad genes" when they were not related to the Kennedys it was only through the marriage of their aunt that they had any connection. They had no Kennedy dna themselves.
I really can't stand the Kennedy's and this case just epitomizes why. Over privileged, arrogant law-breakers who think they can get away with anything. Robert Jr., the lawyer thinks we buy that Skakel is innocent, if he professes it, we'll all swallow it. I don't. John Jr seemed okay, exception to the rule.
Anything or anybody related to a Kennedy is better to stay away from...almost the worst thing that can happen to a parent is when their son or daughter tells you they are dating a Kennedy.
A lot of people hate the Kennedys it seems. They definitely had their fair share of tragedy. It was very sad that John Jr died so young. He seemed a lovely young man. I'm sure like all families they had their good and bad but the Skakels aren't the Kennedys so it seems a bit biased to blame the Kennedy family for the crimes of another family in my opinion.
But the Skakels have enjoyed the influence and protection of the Kennedy clan, and it is still taking place, although RFK Jr couldn't be bothered to attend the Skakel trial except for once where he apparently hid behind a newspaper. But all of a sudden, after the conviction, Michael Skakel became a dear cousin to him. And now that a judge has granted Skakel a new trial, RFK Jr is on a roll with his accusations; doesn't it bother him that the judge, utterly unprofessionally, suggested that Skakel's lawyer Mickey Sherman should have pointed the finger at brother Tommy instead? Tommy is of course also a "Kennedy cousin"...
Tonight, Oct.30, is "Mischief Night," 38 years since Martha was murdered. She'd have been 53 this year. Hard to believe...I watched the DVD Murder in Greenwich this evening, and was reminded, again, of what an ordeal these years have been for Dorthy Moxley. Of course the movie is fictionalized, but it still presents a good theory of what probably happened in 1975, and the aftermath in 2002.
