But I'll say, I've noticed a strange trend in our DNA era. Where decades after a case goes cold.. law enforcement will release a statement that an old murder is now 'cleared'. And it involves some kind of DNA discovery regarding a long dead suspect.
There was just a case in Missouri where a woman was murdered back in the early 9os.. cops have said they ID'ed a suspect with DNA. No more elaboration on the nature of the DNA discovery.. but the case is characterized as 'cleared'. Fair enough, I guess.. Police state DNA has given them a suspect strong enough to clear any further investigation,
but media then runs with headlines that the case is 'solved'.
But the dead suspect has had no day in court, there really isn't any explanation to the public on what the DNA evidence proves, etc. There have been a couple high profile cases like these recently. Where the cases don't seem to be proven, there's no adjudication in court.. and oddly there aren't legal responses from the estates, or families of the deceased accused. Seems like they wouldn't want their dead relatives convicted by the media, without them ever having received a trial?
