I read Inside the Mind of Scott Peterson by Keith Ablow that I thought was pretty good. But I'm having trouble finding more. I did a search of my library's catalog and only got a couple of hits. I must be searching the wrong terms because I know there have to be tons of them.
Maybe it's due to having gone through adolescence at the same time the story took place, but I really enjoyed Richard Levine's "Bad Blood, A Family Murder in Marin County." Although the book (published in 1982) is out of print, I've spotted copies in used-book stores.
I went back and read over the earlier list. In Cold blood is so highly recommendedi'm going to download it tonight. Over the years I just skipped over that one.
Personally, I like the book "Cruel Doubt" about the murder of Leith von Stein and the attempted murder of his wife by her son and his friends. There is another book about the same crime called "Blood Games". "Cruel Doubt" was also a tv miniseries and is written to represent the victims more. "Blood Games" is more of the suspect's point of view.
