The man who shot John Lennon in 1980 has been in jail for over 43 years now.
His next parole hearing will be in February 2024:

This is a very long time to be in jail for a single murder, despite being obviously premeditated.
What are his chances of a release in 2024?

He should rot there.
A “single murder” should be ok, worth a lesser sentence than a murder of multiple people?

Still? The current younger generation definitely doesn't know who he is, and possibly doesn't know who John Lennon is either...sad to say. What's the point of these ridiculously long sentences?

How about giving lifers the option of life or death, if that's what it comes down to. Why are we paying to support this wacko for 43 years and counting, when he will never contribute back what he's been given?

I don't lose sleep over it. If he's released ( he won't be) so be it. I oppose the death penalty, and I oppose giving murderers choices for life or death that their victims didn't have.

I’m not talking about the moral or ethical issues here.
Yes of course you are correct on that score, he should be locked up forever and have the key thrown away.
But is this the norm legally, and for a case like this in New York State?
Or just because we are dealing with a famous person and hence a high profile case - to act as a deterrent?
