The nest area I showed you has been occupied frequently over the 9+ years we have lived here, but I have only seen a baby dove fledge one other time. All the activity in this video took place in the space of just two hours. The mother doves who choose this nesting location are geniuses because this is about a safe a place from weather and predators as one could find. This is not to say something bad cannot happen, but it is much less likely to happen here. In the video, I mention that I talk to the mother dove, and I do. As you can see, the nest location is right above a door in to the garage. When I know a dove is nesting up there, I always open the door slowly and say good morning to the momma dove. I really do think that after that happening dozens of times, she really does understand that I mean her or her eggs/babies any harm. Anyhow, I thought this would be a really cool experience to share with you all, I hope you enjoy it!!!

Oh, my goodness! Lovely! When we lived in SoCal we had a mom make her nest in a swordtail fern hanging on the pergola of our rear patio. We had been gone for about 6 weeks & I discovered them when watering the fern! They survived the bath & we witnessed 5 babies fledging, so fascinating. Thanks!

Really adorable. It's amazing the progress that takes place all in one day. Very cute how they found a spot to sit on the truck!

I guess a spot in the shade is a spot in the shade! The baby dove has no idea that the truck is any different than a tree. It was really amazing to see the baby dove go from the ground to the gate, then out to the world within just a couple of hours! I suppose that is required if they want to survive since most of the threats to them are on the ground. Thanks for watching and your comment!

Yes, they seem to gravitate to hanging baskets and under eaves to build nests. Nature is resilient!

Liked the video, too.

Thank you for sharing your lovely videos, including this one. They capture the flavor of Sonora Desert living really well, through casual glimpses of everyday happenings. The southern AZ landscape is stunning and unique. It is fiercely hot, as noted in other threads, but paradoxically green throughout all seasons except winter.
