You know that sounded rude. And where are you from originally, the midwest?. Can't anyone have an opinion without getting offended?

Default Reviving an old post

Thanks for backing me up Tajana !! ^^

I am still in KY until next year and Tucson is on my radar for places to move for sure. U of A has a lot of my career goals associated with it and I am looking to move west...

That being said...here is something in Tucson's defense....it is 100 degrees here in KY today and tomorrow! It has been hotter than a witches tit here this summer.

So I ask, What is the point of living in KY with brutal summers and "brutal" winters when I can come to Tucson and battle the long summer and have a pleasant winter (no snow/skidding/etc).

Anyone want to put together a desalination plant powered by solar power and run it from Puerto Penasco? haha

Viva Tucson

When the economics begin to make some sense or desparation sets in hard enough, I think we'll start to see a lot of ideas like this being seriously discussed. But until then, why bother planning for potential future contingenices that may or may not happen, right?

My family visited Tucson for the first time in February 2009. I was actually surpised at the amount of green!! Sure, there is a lot of dirt/sand whatever it is, but it's the desert! My sister & brother in laws back yard had grass. There was a beautiful park down the street from our hotel that had lots of thick grass and tall beautiful trees.

If you don't like desert look, I suggest looking past that to the gorgeous mountains in the background!!! My hubby and I were just stunned at the mountains.

I miss Tucson everyday. I wish so much that my hubby could find work there and we would be there in a heartbeat!

Any overhanging trees in any neighborhood in Tucson?

Like my current neighborhood? Where one can walk on the sidewalk...underneath tons of trees?

I guess it depends on where you come from. I live in Tucson and I miss greenery of Oklahoma and New York.

Sorry to disappoint you, but Tucson is in the desert. Sure there's some grass in some areas, but Tucson neighborhoods do not look like the tree lined midwestern neighborhood you have pictured. This is the land of cacti and Palo Verde trees.

Old Louisville, right? I just graduated from UofL and started grad school here UA (I've lived here for two months). I'm in the Immunology program here, so I'm at on the medical campus. My boyfriend started grad school here as well (in chemistry) after graduating from Louisville. We both really loved Louisville and were sad to go, but we both agree that Tucson seems homey.

As far as UA goes, the science programs trump anything at UofL. The facilities are amazing, the faculty are some of the best around (eg., the man who discovered MHC Class II antibodies), and great science comes out of this place. It's much larger than UofL but it's a good thing because there is so much collaboration between departments.

As for Tucson the city, I am very happy here. My boyfriend is less happy (not as many microbreweries, bars close at 2 a.m., not many good bands come through here, etc.) but he still likes it. It definitely has a different vibe from Louisville. It's much more laid back and very south-western (as to be expected). I prefer it because of the comparatively great shopping, many more independent businesses, and the people in general. People here are much healthier and much more aware than those in Ky. It's also pretty cheap to live here. We pay $700 a month for a 2 bdrm duplex that's a five minute walk to campus. Gas is less than $2.50/gallon. Most of the city is cyclist friendly which procures the opportunity to save money there. Groceries and alcohol are cheaper here as well.

I love KY-I've been here 6 years and it's beautiful almost all year long. It snows 3 days a year which is perfect for my rear wheel drive. I'm from IL-it's less beautiful and is pretty only when it snows (before it melts and gets all slushy). But, I want to see some mountains and skies with stars not hidden by clouds. I don't care if it isn't green. Sign me up and find me a job. I'm looking for a little Tucson in my life. I've never hugged a cactus. I probably should...

Try to express your love in some other way - cacti are not the hugging types!
