I have been hunting for my forever home in the DFW area and striking out. I have traveled to and through Tyler (over a year ago) and love the green and trees of the area. Here are a few details; please share your thoughts - will I be able to find my home in the Tyler area or West of Tyler?

Single, active, working 50 something woman.
Work traveling the State of Texas; with frequent trips to Houston, Galveston, Austin, San Antonio but technically covering the entire state - weekly. (Plan to retire in about 20 years.)
Have rented in Fairview/McKinney. Son, DIL and new grand baby live in this area, currently.
Would like to live in DFW area, prefer Suburban - like it more quiet for living but near amenities and culture; love walking to shops, theatres, restaurants, bike / walking paths, safe to live alone.
Do NOT want to see the house next door right out a bedroom window; where you can reach and knock on the neighbor's house; would prefer a little green space between me and the neighbors.
Looking for a 3/2 w garage, Cottage style home for no more than $175k.

Wow, if you took your time you might find part of what you need west of Tyler, Chandler, or around the area, Van maybe. It will be harder to be able to walk to the amenities you want. But the house, you should be able to find, maybe a little less than the 175 but surely not above 175.

Maybe as far west of Tyler as Athens, which is about 35 miles, for occasional visit to Tyler for performing arts at the U. T. Cowen Center, or the East Texas Symphony which is quite good. Don't know if that would work, but I don't really see it being exactly what you are looking for here. However, you just might find something unexpected about the area that would replace what you didn't find in the area. Justin sayin' lol

Best of luck to you, hope it works for you somewhere.

Sounds perfect! I don't have to literally walk to town - but would like a walkable or bikeable area.

Thank you!

Walkable and bikeable is what's going to be the challenge - not the price point. Other than that, I think you can find what you're looking for in the Tyler area.
