I did use the search function, but didn't find much. We have an option on a place just outside of Jacksonville, wondering if anyone has input on living in this area? We're moving from out of state and looking for a forever community . I can look up statistics but can't look up "feel" - we're a mixed race and conservative-leaning family if that matters.

Thanks for any input!

Maybe Kathyrn will respond.

The best area news about Jacksonville is that in the last few months. It's a no stops ride from Toll 49 to Jacksonville, with much faster commute time or for shopping and doctor visits.

The city should start a slow gradual increase in population thus more there instead of only Tyler for more of your needs.

Most of the growth is in and south of Tyler. Not all growth but most of the growth. You didn't say where you are coming from or what you are used to and what your needing. We might be more specific.

Best of luck to you. If you rather contact me directly as many have after being on city-data for more than a decade.

Best of luck to you and welcome to the area.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm going to answer my own question as a new Jacksonville resident since January . So far, we're really loving living in Jacksonville. My husband does have to commute 30 minutes to central Tyler, but that's a matter of perspective since he's always commuted that far. We've found the people here super friendly. Perhaps we've had more local contact than is typical since we had a house seller that covered up problems, and years of no maintenance on other house systems, so we've had quite the parade of contractors and their crews through here. Everyone has been very warm and welcoming. Being embarrassingly snobbish about my coffee (in my defense, I'm from the Pacific Northwest), I was thrilled to find one perfectly acceptable and one great coffee place (Neighbor's Coffee, they have good pastries, too). Our insurance covers both little hospitals here, so we don't even need to go into Tyler for that, other than the occasional specialist referral.

And for those trips to Tyler, as you say, it's just not that big a deal. Even Dallas - we do a bi-weekly Costco run and make it fun by planning something else in with that. We're just really happy with this location! I'll remember to update this if anything occurs that would be useful in the future .

I'm very glad you're happy with Jacksonville. I personally hate it but to each his or her own!
