I thought I'd start a thread on updates to airports and nonstop & non-seasonal flights to/from Puerto Rico. It will be interesting to see if these flights survive. Arriving in SJU after midnight and leaving really early in the morning has challenges in PR.

I'm willing to play along, but I'm mildly confused by the question. Why only Spirit and Frontier to SJU? Many others go there...?

You could not pay me to fly Frontier nor Spirit. Although Frontier's safety record is not as bad as I anticipated, fact is, these airlines cater to less-than-pleasant travelers. Seen enough convincing Frontier/Spirit Fight (not flight) videos. No sir. I'll stick to familiar airlines like United, American, etc.

I only posted updates (new flights). I was pleased to see more traffic to Ponce and Aguadilla.

It's a niche case use for the airlines in question, in order to maximize utilization. It's not a totally boneheaded rationale, given the folks who need the ULCC service price point to get to PR, share the intersectionality of also being inelastic enough to endure red-eyes and the fight club cabin potential in order to get there. Mostly repo flights, unlikely to endure through the low season.

PR is not exactly a cheap touring destination for those without housing covered by family when they get there. The folks who didn't pick Dominican republic for their cheapo vacay, are probably not going to be swayed by the couple hundred bucks they save in airfare over booking through AA, UA or DL.

we usually fly frontier, the savings for three or four people is several hundred dollars at least, often much more at peak travel times. you can save a week's worth of hotel stay by avoiding American. unless you're rich, can't imagine flying American. sure, I'd rather be on southwest but I'm just not willing to pay the price, that's the case for a lot of people.

BWI-SJU is an established route. Southwest used to have three flights daily I believe, maybe four, but is still operating a reduce schedule which might leave an opening for frontier. Interested in the ponce flights now that they aren't exclusively red eyes.

RDU - SJU - JetBlue - beginning July 5, 2023
DEN - SJU - United - beginning October 29, 2023

It's nice to see both of these additions. Denver will now be the most western destination in the US to have a flight to SJU. While Frontier already has RDU-SJU, JetBlue might be a better fit for other travelers.

A thread about flights and no photos or videos. Cone on guys, Puerto Rico is a beautiful place even from the air. Lets break with that.

A recent beautiful landing at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in the San Juan Metro Area.

From Orlando, Florida to Rafael Hernández Airport in Aguadilla.

Landing in Ponce, second largest city of Puerto Rico. What a beautiful sight of seeing all those mountains covered in trees!
