Try gardening in the Tri-Cities! I was fortunate enough to live in two neighborhoods that had irrigation connections, up to our property. From there on, it was DIY. My first residence required that I buy a pump and install an underground pipe connection from the weir box to the pump. After that, my first attempt involved using above ground mainline "pipes", which meant I had to constantly move the pipes around to water my lawn, garden and pasture (about 2 acres worth). So, eventually, I dug many trenches and installed underground pvc pipes, risers and sprinkler heads, all of which which leaked constantly. The next place I moved to was already set up with an underground system, but it turned out to be really leaky and this created a series of underground streams that caused the earth to cave in. What joy!

Done that. i usually stop at the Native stand along the highway by the Bridge of the Gods and pick up smoked salmon or sturgeon. But I'm usually not out that way on the same time that I'm planning a salmon grill.

The sellers in trucks at the Bridges or parking lots are 'middlemen'. About 2x what it costs to spend the extra 5 min to go direct to fisheries. Go down to the water to buy. Parking lots at fisheries are also middle men. Bring a cooler, have them fill it up with fillets. Cheaper in 50lb +. Purchases. Bring a few coolers for your neighborhood.

Similar to buying produce from East side. Take the truck and trailer, bring home bins, share with your neighbors. We did that with peaches and cherries while in Colorado.
