Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has lived or visited Fairfield Village. It looks like a lovely community, but would like to get some feedback. I'm looking for an active adult community with lots of activities and clubs, tennis, swimming, etc. It's on a golf course. I don't play, but can always learn! I'm wondering how friendly and active this community really is.

Thanks in advance.

Swimming!

SWWA is dreadfully lacking public accessible pools.
You might look to the region in The Heights, near Garrison Square ... between tennis club and propstra pool. https://vansd.org/propstra-aquatic-center/. Many years ago there was a private club in Salmon Creek with both Tennis and Swimming (small pool).

Otherwise, if you're serious about access to your chosen sports look into Gresham (mt Hood College area). Or west beaverton (TV Rec 50m pools)

Corvallis also has a community swim center with 50m pool.

Mcminnville is a nice retirement community with pool / rec center, probably indoor tennis as well.

Or... For WA... Puget Sound has some areas with decent indoor recreation for public. More affordable on west side. Look at Bremerton / Silverdale and Gig Harbor.

Had a few retiree friends live in Fairway Village. It is a very small golf course, but at least some green space and convenient to Fisher Transit Center, and local (walkable) shopping and services)

We tried for many years to get east Clark County community center with a lap pool to no avail. ! The "Play Pools" that Vanc puts in their community centers are very expensive toys that get minimal utilization.

Are you talking about Fairfield Village which is over between Beaverton and Hillsboro? Or Fairway Village which is in East Vancouver off 164th? I can't tell you anything about either one, except the Fairfield Village in east Vancouver is in a very choice location next to lots of shopping and restaurants that are walkable distance away. Which is hard to find in Vancouver.

Stealth is right. SW Washington is lacking in swimming. But if you just want to swim laps, other than the bigger public and private aquatic centers there are some fitness clubs that have lap pools. Before the pandemic my daughter had a membership at the 24 Hour fitness at Columbia Tech Center and they have 3-lane lap pool that never seemed to get all that much use. That might be your closest option if they don't have a pool at Fairway Village. It's probably within walking distance. You can scroll through their photos to see the amenities

It's basically the park and ride transit center for express buses to downtown Portland as well as other parts of Vancouver and PDX airport. During the rush hours you can hop express buses to downtown Portland every 5-10 min. They have a nice station with indoor seating to wait. The express buses have only two stops, one in each end of downtown Portland, so it's as fast as driving. The nearest light rail stops are across the river at Cascade Station next to the airport.

During off hours there is local service between the Fishers Landing Transit Center and the Parkrose Transit Center where you can connect to light rail service to downtown Portland which is a good way to get to places like the MODA center to see games. It is probably about the most transit friendly place you could live in Vancouver other than downtown Vancouver. So if you are looking for a car-free retirement then Fairway Village would be a decent location.

Thank you so much. That was very informative.

I have been wondering about Fairfield Village, too. Pictures look nice. I am more of a hiker than an indoor gym person. I will be going back and forth between WA and CO. Would homes in gated Fairfield Village bereasonably safe when I am in CO?

It's Fairway Village. I made a mistake originally!

Fisher Transit Center is also served by Skamania transit (currently east to Carson, WA. $1-$2 for seniors.) Eventually will connect to Gorge link and get you to Hood River and The Dalles. And will be able to cover the west Columbia River Gorge (both sides).

We looked at Fairway Village eight years ago. There is a pool, fitness center and 9 hole golf course. I can’t remember if the pool is outdoor or indoor. IMO, the homes there are often outdated and unimproved. Many of them are only 2 bedroom homes that do not account for people’s hobby or special interest needs. Some of them seem uncomfortably close to the course. But, it is a pleasant, pretty place. And I agree that there seems to be a lot of socializing.

I would not want to move into a home at the southernmost end of FW because of intrusive road noise.

Vancouver has two community centers. I visit Firstenburg, when it is open, and there is a pool, activities for seniors, a track, weight room and cardio center. They also offer various fitness classes and other recreational opportunities. On the same campus is the public library.

We like the facilities at Firstenburg. And everyone is quite friendly. This one thing I wish we could have back to normal. I miss going there. They opened for a few weeks, then closed again,
