I have read in a number of places, including on this board in passing, that Mara Salvatrucha exists in Thousand Oaks and is the main gang there - and that TOVCCA is the only territory they hold in Ventura County. Is this true? It really doesn't jibe with Thousand Oaks' reputation as one of the safest communities in California - given that MS13 is super- violent, deadly, and savage. I'd presume, if they are in TOVCCA, that it's no longer a safe community? Or do the leaders of MS13 live in Thousand Oaks and thus their violent activities are kept somewhat under control?

No way. All graffiti is immediately removed, any of the wanna-be puny gangs that were here in the 90's have withered, and a special task force is on top of things: Special Enforcement | Thousand Oaks, CA

The latest trend is for LA gang criminals to pull jobs up here. Unfortunately for them, there aren't very many Black people around, less than 1700 estimated. So they draw attention. They get caught. And there is a very active Neighborhood Watch consciousness in town. And lots of police who have the time to investigate. They use DNA left behind to catch thieves. And Ventura County courts nail them.

There wasn't anything on that police site even mentioning MS-13. The city probably does not want it known that the most dangerous gang in America is there, even if the smaller, relatively harmless gangs are on the decline.

Looks like TO's proximity to Los Angeles as one would expect makes it more crime prone even if those crimes are solved fast.

Any black members of MS-13 are Central American, like the rest of their membership, and not African-American.

MS13 are a Central American gang made up of Salvadorians and not Black people as was mentioned by one poster.

At one time Newbury park had about 10 known MS13 members living there although they were not actively committing crimes in the area.

One local gang that also uses the 13 is MLPS based in Moorpark. Many Hispanic gangs use the 13 for Southern California anyway.

Also some kids like to tag MS13 for fun.

Not to say that MS13 are not heading up here to commit crimes. The gang is active in 30 states and does have a big hold on the Southern California area.

Correct that gang names are not mentioned, as the city does not provide any "free advertising" for gangs.

The links I provided are all showing obviously Black captured criminals, only mentioning them as being part of a "gang." I didn't know the origin of MS-13.

Crime is down since the 1990's. Slight uptick from 2015, but violent crimes were mostly done against people known to each other. Homicides in 2015 and 2016---zero.

In 2016, robberies were up by "10" that's 10 robberies, not 10%

the gang presence in T.O. is very, very small. as noted, pretty much limited to a small portion of newbury. i've never seen anything involving MS13. local hispanic gangs are loosely under the umbrella of CA prison gangs. T.O. is as safe a place as you can find in CA.

It's my understanding MS13 originated in SoCal and some members(illegal aliens) caught here, were deported back to where they came from and started there own MS13. Our President has represented MS13 as a South American gang, we need the wall. Is this pretty much correct?
