I previously lived in the city, in Los Angeles, and we never saw mosquitoes. Then I moved to NC, and they are everywhere. Considering move to TO and wondering if it's going to be similar to NC where it's not safe to be outside at dusk or early mornings in the summer (when it's cooler) unless you want to get eaten up.

Mosquitos thrive in stangnet water or near small creeks etc. No such thing in TO or at the ocean beaches. Sand flies yes around the sea weed etc.

Recall decades seeing them in the southern states and into Florida.

Those black chiggers in Florida sure liked my Calif blood at night when staying at a beach campground. Never went back there again. Went into the water at 6 AM one morning to get away from getting bit.

Calif may not be Free of mosquitos but pretty close to it.

What mosquitos? (Another benefit of this area.)

Of course, they'll occasionally fly into the area and, if any standing puddles of stagnant water are available, they'll perhaps stop for a visit.

But compared to many other locales, it's not really an issue here.

There can be some near the water ways if they have water sitting around in the late spring. I saw some recently.

CA has one of the most widespread mosquito eradication programs in the uS. I believe they quote 90% of populated areas of the state have mosquito control.

The OP from Toronto, Ont is next to Lake Ontario so he might see some Mosquitos at night along with the night humidity as I recall having lived in Hamilton during the summer nights...been a long time ago for me.

I lived by the old Hamilton bay as it was being slowly being filled with city trash...again long ago.
