Brattleboro Reformer
Sep 7 2017
"BRATTLEBORO — Before Tuesday night’s Selectboard meeting, Michelle Simpson-Siegel grabbed a burger.
But the Downtown Brattleboro Alliance board president was shocked when she saw a sign from a panhandler she had earlier seen smoking marijuana with other men downtown..,,"

“You are lucky I am not robbing you,” the sign read.

*shrug* It is a sign. I would have no problem stopping with a sharpie and making another and handing it to him - ""You are lucky I'm not shooting you."

I don't see the whole thing as anything more than an uninformed panhandler trying a tactic against an uninformed citizen. No special laws are needed, just a simple response in character to the implied threat. (Mind you, it might be more effective from a group of bikers...)

When I turned 55, I suddenly realized that at some point I would not be in the work force any more. A quick review of my finances revealed that any Wall Street shock would leave me in unpleasant straits. I spent several months wracking my brain to figure out how to avoid panhandling in my dotage.

A vacation in Florida where I saw far too many people holding signs at intersections led to my solution. I made my own sign.

It says, "WILL HAVE SEX FOR FOOD."

I'm ready for the next Wall Street implosion.

Guys get to be a certain age, and women of a certain age start checking them over like packages of meat. . . I think of it as a reversal of the roles of young adulthood.

Lol cgregor.
You be funny!

I've been to Bboro a load of times since moving north.
Those panhandlers aren't scary.
Now walk in NYC, there be some serious scary panhandlers.

I'm not ascared in the least.
Those weed puffin, sharpie carryin, riverdwellers are no match for this 57 year old bus drivers daughter from nj

It was trying to be funny, but wasn't. Nothing more, nothing less.

To avoid the panhandlers do NOT go near Transportation station, Food Co-Op, Brat is swarming with them especially the last week of the month. Most have a elbow disease of one sort and many have apartments/room or live in a GroundWorks shelter AND already get a SS check/EBT. NO legit reason to panhandle in Brat! Shelter, food, clothes assistance with transportation available from numerous sources/agencies!!
