I moved to Vermont when I had a change in my life. I didn't have a job nor did I know anyone. I looked on a map and picked a small town that I wanted to try. That town was Townshend. Why? Why not. The thing was, I never made it there. I ended up just north of Brattleboro before moving to the other side of the state to attend college. I have never regretted moving here.

I know this state is not for everyone. The biggest complaints are the weather & the taxes. Some people are city dwellers. Not a good fit for Vermont. You have Burlington & Rutland but they are tiny compared to places like Portland. I would suggest to see if you are a good fit, come for a visit. Stay for about a week. If you come in winter, that will definitely give you a sense of how it is.

Where I live you would be hard pressed to find a rental that allows dogs. Something to consider before moving. You don't want to be in the ONLY rental in town that allows them and then have no options if you have to move.
