Hi everyone!

I have been trying to dig up any local ghost stories for Vermont. I know, a bit off topic for the forum, but it's been harder to dig up online than I had hoped (I need it for a painting I have to do for a show, and while the "Vampire" in Woodstock was interesting, it isn't "ghost", and the children of that doctor was too unsettling for me... so I'm still hunting for a good story!) I figured I'd ask here! Any good local lore?

Thanks in advance!

There's a Vermont author named Joe Citro who specializes in collecting and publishing ghost stories. I think he's probably a good writer, although my general impression is that he must be a credulous fool if he believes all that stuff. On the other hand, I don't think he ever claims that he believes the stories he tells.

Joe is fine. He would be the one to contact, if possible.

The beginnings of the spiritualism and transcendentalism have some roots in Vermont. There was a farm that catered to "outsiders" and purported to be haunted and have seances and so forth. It was visited by a few of the big names of the times. Locals never paid a whole lot of attention, as it was felt that there was trickery involved.

Gold Brook covered bridge in Stowe had a ghost, according to some. Waterbury Inn might have had one. I vaguely remember talk of one in Barre.

Supposed to be a haunted RR bridge in White River Junction, might make for a good painting.

Yeah "Emily's Bridge" in Stowe (the Gold Brook one Harry mentions) is constantly visited by tourists and is also a popular teenage hangout.
