Hi guys,

Planning a short trip to Stowe area in October.
I was wonder what time of the month would be ideal to go for the foliage?
Is the week of Oct 18th too late for it?
Thanks in advance.

Depending...but mid October might be a little late..it has been dry...contact the Stowe visitors bureau. They will have best info...might also help you find a place to stay as things are solidly booked during a normal year for fall foliage.

Leaves are already dropping here (Stowe/Waterbury). We've had a very very dry summer, trees are stressed. Unless we get some big rain soon, I can see this being a not very good foliage season. Even in a good year, I'd say the 18th is usually pretty late.

oh man. maybe I will plan for next year. everything is kinda booked already this year.
so what makes for a good foliage? less heat and more rain?

Honestly I don't know that there is a hard and fast rule - at least no one I've talked to knows lol...but one thing is for sure when things are very dry, the trees get stressed and the colors tend to be more muted and leaves drop a lot sooner. We've had years that are dry and then it rains a good bit in September and things reverse course. But so far that hasn't happened, and the long term forecast doesn't look great.

The last few days have been very hot for September as well, which doesn't help.

Mother Nature generally does what she wants lol...I think the southern part of the state is doing better as far as rain, so might be worth looking into a trip there.
