Hello. I'm planning to visit Green Mountain for the first time Oct. 3, 4th and 5th.

Can I expect to see leaves changing?

Are most places open, restaurants etc ...

Any suggestions for clean, safe moderately priced hotels in the area?

What is the top 3 things to do there? Favorite trails?

Is the Lincoln Home / Hildene worth a visit?

Any restaurant recommendations?

I'm going with an old friend and I am disabled but can walk some simple trails but I cannot mountain climb

Thanks for any help!

What part of the state are you visiting specifically?

Hi. The plan is to drive to Green Mountain area and just stay there and do things near by for two days.

The Green Mountains run through a big portion of the state - is there a particular town/city you are using as a base?

Your reference to being disabled made me think that you might really enjoy the Robert Frost Interpretive Trail up in Ripton. It's a very nice, easy trail, just under 1 mile, and well maintained. And the whole Ripton - and especially Bread Loaf - area is gorgeous, foliage-wise. If you drive on Rte 125 from Middlebury up to Ripton, stop at the Robert Frost trail (on the right), and then, after your walk, keep driving on 125 in the same direction, you will pass Bread Loaf, and then descend down to Hancock. In peak foliage, it's breathtaking.

Thank you! I needed that direction. I've never been so had no idea where to go. Sounds great. Thank you so much!

You're welcome. If you are really at sea and don't have any idea what to do, my further suggestion is to spend one night in Middlebury and poke around town and the surrounding area (including the Ripton/Hancock drive I described), and then another night in Montpelier, doing the same for that town and area. Your visit doesn't sound like it will be very long and focusing on those two towns and surroundings might make for a pleasant time.

I was going to also suggest that you visit Weston Priory, which is beautiful and serene, but they are closed to visitors for a while, due to COVID.

Speaking of which: Do be aware of the COVID restrictions and protocols. There's a different thread on this forum with a link to the government's website. Depending on where you are coming from and how you are getting there, you may be okay, quarantine-wise. But you may not, so check to be sure.

Good luck!
