Hello all!

I'm posting this on here as well as the NH forum. My husband and I are going to take a road trip this summer (most likely mid August). We live in PA and will start out in Ogonquit ME for one day and then we will spend 2-3 days in VT and 2-3 in NH before driving back home. Any recommendations on areas to visit in either state with unique things to do? Preferably hoping for no more than about 3 hrs in between destinations. Thanks!!

Can you give us some more information on things you like to do? Your interests? I don't want to recommend some hikes if you are not into the outdoors and would prefer to go to museums!

Certainly! Yes, the hiking isn't really our thing. We love any type of unique attractions along with quaint, walkable towns, interesting museums, jet skiing, maybe a brewery/winery or 2. Also love renting electric bikes, segways, etc..

Quaint walkable towns:
Woodstock - very touristy and quaint. Plenty of lodging choices. Home to the Billings Farm Musuem. VT Institute of Natural Science (VINS) in nearby Quechee.
Manchester - ditto above. Home to Hildene, the summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln.
You'll see a lot about Stowe, I don't consider it very walkable. It's very spread out.
Burlington-small city. Very walkable. Lots to see and do.
Shelburne - quaint but not super walkable.
Less or non-touristy towns that I would also recommend are Middlebury and Bristol.
Tons of breweries everywhere.
Based on what you wrote above, I'd recommend Burlington or Shelburne (they are 10-15 min apart). The Shelburne Museum is FABULOUS. Shelburne Farms is also a great place to visit. Burlington has the bike path where you can rent bikes and cruise along the lake. There WAS a segway tour in the past, not sure if it's still around. Shelburne has the Shelburne Vineyard and Fiddlehead Brewery. Jet skiing? Not sure...maybe Mallett's Bay in Colchester.
Plenty of lodging options in the Burlington-Shelburne area.

Thank you, vter! I think purely based on location, we may go the Woodstock/Queechee area. From what I looked at, I think the following look like they are worth checking out over the course of 2 days...downtown Woodstock, Billings Farm and Museum, Sugarbush Farms, Woodstock Wheels for E bike rental, Queechee Segway, Living the Dream Alpaca Farm, VT Toy Museum, Queechee Gorge Village, and maybe the VT Institute of Natural Sciences. Are any of these not worth the time, or are there any other can't miss attractions>

That sounds like a good plan. You should also check out the Calvin Coolidge Homestead in nearby Plymouth Notch. You could also go check out the DArtmouth College campus in nearby Hanover NH. Hanover's Main Street adjacent to the college is fun to walk around.

One more question...since we are not coming so much to look at the fall foliage, is mid August a good time to visit? I'm not sure if it's ungodly hot or super stormy on average during that time?

I think August is the best month here. Warm and sunny, generally (but we know anything can happen here). And I consider August 'not fall.' Foliage is generally mid-September through October sometime.

Early summer June/July is when it's more humid and stormy. August is a summer sweet spot for sure. If it's a hot day, Lake Willoughby is an awesome clear water mountain lake to cool off at. Waterbury, Stowe, and Smugglers Notch are nice to visit, the Notch is a very scenic drive.
