It depends on what sort of game. What platform. What sort of graphics. How involved the game is.

I've created basic games with free art objects or just text based in a couple days. If you want to recreate something like Asteroids that's not terribly difficult after just a couple programming classes. I've also helped a friend develop a VR game on Steam that went on for the better part of a year just with 3 of us working on it in our spare time. Also paid a graphics guy for some art assets.

How to get help? Like most anything else, connections. If you're interested in developing a game hopefully you went to school for something computer science related or graphic design and have friends/coworkers/etc to call on who may be able to be talked into helping develop for a cut of the profits, if any. Otherwise you'll have to pay someone for whatever skills you're lacking.

These days also helps to know some "influencers" who will post up video reviews for some free marketing.

If you're talking AAA quality you're talking many thousands of hours, more people, and a huge budget of course.

I'd recommend grabbing a copy of Unity. It's free to use, you'll get the licensing guff for game sales using Unity in the download.

Unity is a one stop mature cross platform engine, that has great community support and assets. Without the need for understanding complex physics and low level coding.

Yeah, I'd give Unity a try. But be prepared to spend years at it, which hopefully you'll enjoy. Personally I'd start with something modest, so you have a realistic shot at completing it.
