I will be starting work at a hospital in Petersburg Virginia. I wanted to know which areas of Petersburg or near Petersburg that i should move to. I have read online that the city has high crime rate. Please advice on also places I would get good schools. I have two children in grade 8 and kindergarten.

With some love and care Petersburg would have great potential. The grand old homes could be some of the best in the state if they would get the attention they need. But at this point I would not move to Petersburg. What was suggested above would work well.

I would look into West Petersburg, which is not in the City of Petersburg but neighboring Dinwiddie County. Lot of nice homes by the river and even a bit further down or out in Sutherland. Prince George is another great option. Pretty much anywhere in the Richmond metro would be ok though for a commute to Petersburg. I was surprised the last time I visited Old Town though and how many people were outside dining and walking the streets. Looks like a rebound may be in its future.
