Starlink's actual test results show that its speeds are truly far and above Hughes, etc. That is no longer a question. As noted, the latency reduction is what mostly makes this possible. Now longer term, how much it gets loaded by users and how that gets managed will determine the ultimate, loaded speed. Like cell sites that get busy, everyone gets a lower speed but how much so versus the Beta test results is TBD.
As for the cost, I don't expect that to go lower until and if the demand slacks off as noted; but it will take good alternatives to make that happen. It's gonna take a long time for fiber to reach a big number of rural spots...but it is showing up in some unexepcted places, like one area in rural Wyoming that I recently visited!
