I'm excited to see that Virginia is moving to support expanded passenger rail in Virginia and infrastructure repair. There's a plan to introduce a round trip run between DC and Roanoke, a new station in Christiansburg, a direct Roanoke to Hampton Roads run, and someday, maybe just maybe, that long anticipated extension to Bristol. News reports say that the spike in passenger traffic due to the Roanoke expansion was much higher than originally estimated, making the Roanoke to DC segment one of the most profitable Amtrak routes in the US.

I wonder if the passenger rail repair and expansion would be blocked by a subsequent Republican administration in the Virginia State House. I see that Republican candidate Pete Doran is criticizing the current Democratic administration for not thinking big enough. He proposes making Roanoke the hyperloop hub of the Southeastern US with connections to Charlotte, Atlanta and Nashville as well as DC.

So far, looking good for us RR fans!
