DC is not that kind of town. Nodoby wants to come to DC during a random week (this week, for example) and blow thousands of dollars on entertainment. Vegas, on the other hand, is built exactly for that. That's the only reason it exists. Hotel clubs in Vegas that are the size of football fields will be packed tonight (with pool parties to follow in the morning). It's an entertainment city. Same goes for Miami and to a lesser extent NYC.
Right again and that is why I really want to know how the MGM Grand is going to do. People want to come down and may want to stay near the area and not necessarily at the MGM. They will need a destination that will not require them to travel to DC for social entertainment. The immediate area needs to support the MGM grand if it wants to succeed. That is why Atlantic city isn't doing so well as anticipated since its inception. The immediate and surrounding area isn't as developed as LA Vegas is.

This is what happened to Atlantic City and pray to whomever is in your back pocket that the National Harbor doesn't end up like this when the MGM GRAND COMES...

----"So what happened? Even before the Great Recession and surrounding states approved gaming, the unlimited hopes for Atlantic City were problematic. The A.C. casino industry and the state regulators didn't recognize until too late what even Las Vegas had understood more than a decade earlier: There had to be more than just gambling if the city was to survive.

Blinded by its gaming monopoly in the Mid-Atlantic region, Atlantic City failed to diversify. There was gaming and little else. Enter a casino and you could be on the moon. A boardwalk? What is that? The ocean? A diversion from the real business - gaming. Plans for entertainment facilities never panned out.
In contrast, Las Vegas built "theme" hotels that provided a reason, other than gaming, to visit. It is amazing that Las Vegas is now viewed as "family friendly," but a city with beaches couldn't or wouldn't sell that advantage".------

The question is, will the creative ART class in this area take advantage to develop the immediate area or will it be the creative KNOWLEDGE class that tries to funnel pathological gamblers to DC to enjoy "walkable areas, parks, and monuments" and a "world class shopping city central" that don't interest these types... Now we are talking!!

Atlantic City's losing game of monopoly

I remember when Cam'Ron (I think) made the video at Dream and everyone was all about DC clubs and people would come here to party.
Nostalgia? For 1999-2001?

Oh, dear.

Let me tell you about HarDCore...
