I currently reside in Coastal Southern California and love it's weather and vegetation. However, does the climate and vegetation in the Mediterranean basin exceed that of my current location? Would you rather live in Marseille or Perth based on those two factors alone as opposed to, say, Santa Barbara? To those Mediterranean climate lovers out there, what are your insights? You're welcome to include the central Chilean coast or the area surrounding Cape Town as well if you believe that their weather and overall quality if life trumps the aforementioned ones.

The best Mediterranean climates are found in the Mediterranean. The Californian and WA Med climates are too dry (humidity, not rainfall), whereas the original version has high dew points.

The best Mediterranean climates in my opinion are Lampedusa, and Ceuta.

Most European coast of Mediterranean Basin have a short dry season, compared to Coastal California, Central Chile and Perth.

Catania - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rhodes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

These are two of my favourites. I'm sure some people might find Catania too hot at times but I think it's fantastic.

I prefer the WA coast myself. It gets the high temps of the Med but more of a dry season and less thunderstorms I presume due to lower humidity.

I heard Western Australia gets far too hot as compared to Los Angeles, whose summer temperatures rarely exceed 85 Fahrenheit (30 Celsius) . I must admit , however, that both the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea have warmer temperatures than the Pacific which i find dreadfully cold even in the summer.. Any insights into Central Chile or southwestern Sourh Africa?

Thumbs up My vote is SW WA

SW Western Australia's humidity is superb maybe 340+ days a year; dewpoints perpetually between 0-15 C (32-59 F)

If someone hates hot weather, yes Southern California is better.

However temperatures above 100 F (38 C) are uncommon in SW WA summer... 5-10 days a year?

Typical long hot spells can be like this
in the low-mid 90's F (32-35 C) most days, all month long,
the Fremantle Doctor (afternoon sea breeze) means temperatures drop 4-9 F (2-5 C) before 3pm
then you still have low-humidity with sunset temperatures usually between 73-79 F (23-26 C)
and sunrise temperatures usually somewhere between 59-67 F (15-19 C)

I'm going to go with the Mediteranean basin as the waters warmer and the climates there at least some are wetter.

I lived in Marseille for a year as a child. I remember the climate as relatively mild (after having lived in England and the Northeast of the USA).

I would assume that Santa Barbara like Southern California has a relatively mild climate as well.

So both of the above would be good for me as I don't really know much about the climate of Western Australia.

Southern coastal california inland the climate is very very hot, Woodland Hills has (97°F) 36°C average high in august and (119°F) 48.3°C record high in july 2006.
