They can be argued to be more subtropical depending on what you value more. Nashville has a much hotter and longer summer with 4 months > 22C while Sochi only has 2 months. On the flip side Sochi’s winters are much more milder with no months averaging a low below freezing, but then again the winter highs are not all that different. Plus Nashville is much further south. I think I will give this one to Nashville. Yes Sochi will be able to grow more subtropical plants, but Nashville has more subtropical weather for more of the year.

Both are humid-subtropical, but the hardiness zone of Sochi is 2 zones higher and eventhough summers are cooler, overall it is a climate warm for it’s latitude and compared to rest of the country, it is tropical paradise. That is why Sochi is getting voted. I voted both because Nashville’s latitude it more typical than Sochi’s, it’s summers are hotter and winter highs are similar, also the native glora of Nashville is typical of a more true humid-subtropical, but Sochi makes it up with the higher hardiness zone and all of the plants that can be planted. With hardiness zone 9 you can grow some tropical vegetation same hardiness zone as Gainesville, FL where some crocodiles live!

Yikes! Sochi’s record low is higher than Gainesville’s! Sochi has an average of 20 snowy days yearly, even more debatable since Nashville barely has snow, it snows 2 or 3 times a year, there has been years with no snow also. This debate should be serious.

Also Nashville can bloom as early as February some years I’ve seen, Sochi blooms in April usually.

Who are all the people voting Sochi?

It’s clearly, obviously Nashville.

You can’t grown any tropicals in Sochi. You can grow some subtropicals - they’re famous for their array of mature East Asian palm species.

Sochi isn’t really able to grow much more subtropical plants.

Bullpuckey! Your knowledge of plants is somewhere back in the cold war era.

Sochi would grow a far greater range of plants for the simple fact that it doesn't get to nearly -12c every year.

Can Nashville even grow palm trees?

There are 24 species of palm trees growing at the Sochi Arboretum.

Or citrus for that matter?
