In recent times we’ve seen a barrage of weather stations move to the airports down here, especially in rural area.
This is unfortunate because often they can be up to 10Ks out of town and away from the previous weather station.
Thus both temps and rainfall can be quite different to those in town.
It varies somewhat, but record high temperatures tend to be less than in the townships, which were often at the old post office or police station.
In Saudi Arabia, Al-Bahah city has an elevation of 2200-2400 m and has mostly mild to cool weather, while the airport is located at an elevation of 1600 m, so it always records higher temps than the city itself.
It depends strongly on where the airport or city is situated. If the airport is like Heathrow for example, very much concrete and asphalt, it will bear a high similarity to middle-London. Not all airports are grassy plains.
