My husband, 6 kids and I might have to move close to Kiowa Kansas because of his job. CAn someone tell me what the biggest closest city or suburb is? We're from southern California and I'm not familliar with Kansas. Thank you!
Sandy

There are no big cities or suburbs anywhere near Kiowa. It is about 1.5 hours from the outskirts of Wichita, which is a small city with a limited amount of nice suburbs. There are some other small towns around, but that area of Kansas and Oklahoma is very sparsely populated and fairly isolated.

There are no cities or suburbs there. It would be a massive culture shock. You do have a "small city" of Dodge City nearby or Hutchinson, but you would likely consider those small towns by "California" standards. Your best bet is to visit first...

To add to what everybody's already said, your closest "city" is still 1.5-2 hrs away. Pratt may be your best bet; it's no suburb, it's small (pop approx. 6,500), and it's still about 45 minutes or so away. However, it has more of the amenities that you may be used to seeing in CA (albeit not much of them).

Honestly, you may want to reconsider moving there if possible. Like GraniteStater mentioned, it's going to be a complete culture shock for you and your children, and they may resent this move.

Definitely visit first. Unless you have real-life experience living in an isolated small town, it is going to be a HUGE change. If you take having a good grocery store, Walmart, plenty of restaurants, etc. for granted now, you'll have to change that mindset quick.

Alva, Oklahoma is probably the best town in that area simply because it has a university there. It's about 25 miles from Kiowa.

Doesn't appear that she did. She was posting later about moving to Dallas/Fort Worth area.
