I wasnted to inquire about this in another thread, but it said there is a supermarket chain called Lowes and the pay $16 an hour? Where is this place at? That doesn't sound bad at all, but is this place in an area where the cost of living is high or is thios a management position?

They are mainly in North Carolina and surrounding mid-Atlantic states, so not likely all their stores are in high cost of living area.

I guarantee they are not paying that kind of money for a cashier so its got to be some type of management job. They are up against a competitor that I know pays $8/hr for cashier type work. I was in one of their stores for a walk through once; very nice. I know they are in Charlotte, NC but I don't think they are very big.

Raleigh as well, they are expensive, we only go to pick up a few small things because there is one within walking distance from our house.

I live in Arkansas, and I know their competitor here Home Depot does start at $16 an hour for cashiers and the pay grade goes up from their if you have experience in a particular department.

My dad has worked there for about 10 years and he says it's true. Of course, it's a service job, so your work hours will be just as flexible as your company's demand.

I worked at HD in college, 2003, $8/hr to start up to around $9/hr depending for part timers. They were hiring for a new store. Cashiers made the least.

Prevailing wage has a lot to do with it too. I don't think Lowe's Foods has stores anywhere where there is a living wage law, but they certainly do operate in markets where the prevailing wage (i.e., the market or industry average) is higher than the federal minimum wage.

That doesn't mean you can expect the same earnings in every store location or in other stores.
