Understandably, people want more money. But instead of discussing goals that they are going to achieve to earn more, they just seem to want people to be forced to give it to them. It sounds a lot like entitlement to me.

Is this entitlement a recent trend, or is this how it's always been?

The formula to earn a good wage is pretty straight forward. It's no perfect, but it generally works.

Go to school and do well. Obtain entry to a top university in a field of interest. Get a college education while there. Use the career services to put you in touch with all the lucrative opportunities your top university attracts. Use your education along with your networking skills you gained at college.

The govt has raised my taxes five figures in just a year, so I actually just spend less bc it isn't worth it.

In nearly every job I had that paid well I was expected to practically "live" at work. Now I make far less but am much happier. No more 2 hour commutes, no more 10+ hour days, and no more stress and anxiety attacks over work. Now that I'm hourly I actually get paid for working over time.

I can't really agree on this one, although I'm not saying you're not right. I think having a diploma isn't really a necessity and sometimes it can bring more bad than good. Most of the richest people nowadays were college dropouts.
